Long Lasting Long

On heavy nights covered in
bland breezes and uneven
words, I listen to the longing
it never lies, is always heard

Underneath the spoons and
the cloth, over the mouth
and found in froth, its teeth
bite my breath with every exhale

It never arrives again because
it’s never left to reappear
the love and lasting reading
of thoughts and lines so dear

Once a passion swarmed by
familiar bones and blood
a song worth singing, worth
clinging, to end the flood

The letters and the skin
match perfectly to reflect
the channel in the sky,
it’s the only thing left

Why wait for boredom and
a chance to renew this day
again, when the time is now
to dream and take it all away

The memory lives and stays
on the counter and in the cupboard,
left on the rug covered in dust, for
it lives forever, in every fabric of my lust
